Welcome to Swim Spectacular
This year is going to be bigger and better than ever. My name is Tonya Whitaker and this is my 8th year teaching swim lessons. Every year my classes fill up within days after our registrations go live. However, I’m excited to share that my daughter Bella will also be teaching several classes and sessions.
Bella is completing her sophomore year at the University of Oklahoma and has been a lifeguard for the last 5 years for the City of Arlington and OU. She has certifications in CPR/AED, lifeguarding, lifeguard instructor (LGI), and most importantly, just completed her Water Safety Instruction (WSI) which is specifically for teaching various levels of swim lessons. I may be biased, but I think she has had a pretty good mentor as well.
Bella will join me the first session just to learn the business side of things but will then be teaching the 2nd and 3rd sessions on her own.
What level is my child?
I will be offering several sessions over the summer. All classes will be 4 days a week for two weeks. Fridays will used to make up any sessions which might get canceled due to weather.
Turtles
- Entering Skill Level: No swimming ability and fearful; (If your child is thinking “Oh no, I’ll let you go first,” then this is probably the right class.)
- Purpose: The emphasis in this class is to teach safety first, then focus on the basics of swimming.
- Objective: To develop a healthy fear of the water, by putting face in the water, learning to float, and learning basic strokes to swim to the edge of the pool. In short, if your child was to accidentally fall into a pool, the goal is for them to know how to get to the edge.
- Student must be age 3 1/2 by January 1.
- $190
Guppies
- The only difference between the guppies and the turtles is the amount of fear a child has about being in the water and learning to swim. Some children are naturally fearful and some are natural risk takers. In both cases, the children must have a healthy fear of the water. Teaching this is much easier when I have the right kids in the right class.
- Entering Skill Level – No swimming ability. (If your child is thinking, “Pick me, Pick me, I want to go first,” then this is the right class for them.)
- Objective: Same as Turtles
- Student must be age 3 1/2 by January 1.
- $190
Koi
- Entering Skill Level: Can move through the water alone using any stroke for short distance/stays in shallow end. Koi must be able to swim at least 3 feet!
- Purpose: In this class, there will be an equal focus on teaching safety and swimming basics.
- Objective: Improve swim skills, learn front stroke, elementary back stroke, floating, treading water, jumping off side or diving board and swim to ladder or steps.
- Ages: 4 – 10
- $190
Otters
- These two classes have been combined into one. At this stage, I’m able to cater more to each individual child.
- Entering Skill Level: Must be able to swim across shallow end of the pool. If your child was a Koi last year, but not yet able to swim the shallow end, the Koi class will be better for your child.
- Objective: Front stroke, elementary back stroke, back stroke, treading water, survival floating, diving and intermediate lifesaving skills.
- Age: 4 – 12
- $190
Private Lessons – Depending on work schedules, pool availability, and pool temperatures, we may be able to offer some private lessons this year beginning as early as May 19th. These will be priced at $45 per class or $350 for 8 classes. Please text, call, or email for more information.

Registration
- Registration is limited to a certain number of students per class and session. (If the class you want has filled up, please email me and let me know. If for example, I have 8 people wanting Guppies and no one wanting Turtles, I will adjust the schedule to accommodate the need.)
- Please note that registration is not complete until payment is received. When you submit your registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email with links for payments via Zelle or PayPal. Email or text if you prefer paying with check or cash.
- If you have multiple students, please register them individually. When it comes to payment, you are welcome to pay for all at one time.
- Please, please, please…If the class your child needs is full, do not sign them up for a different class. If you are not sure which class your child should be in, please contact me so we can discuss it. A child in the wrong class negatively impacts everyone in the class. It’s much easier to find a solution at the time of registration than it is on the first day of class.
